On 17 November 2025, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) and the German Jordanian University (GJU) hosted a Joint Excellence Hub at the GJU campus in Madaba, Jordan. In 2025, THWS and GJU established two industrial excellence hubs for the joint degree programmes in Hydrogen Engineering and Advanced Materials, successfully engaging multiple industry partners. Following the successful inaugural Hubs held in April and June at THWS in Germany, this second edition brought together over 70 key stakeholders from academia, industry, and politics to discuss how academic education can be aligned with practical requirements in Germany, Jordan, and the entire MENA region.
The joint aim is to further expand their partnership by deepening cooperation in teaching, expanding practice-oriented teaching formats, and launching collaborative research projects. The Excellence Hubs provide a key platform that connects academia and industry for long-term innovation.
This initiative is supported by the DAAD, which co-funds the two joint degree programmes and part of the Hub activities.
The event proved to be highly successful, with extensive networking, valuable new contacts and many inspiring ideas that are now evolving into concrete project proposals – a promising starting point for further developments expected to emerge from this strong network.
Prof. Dr. Jean Meyer, THWS President, said:
“As a technical University, it is important to us that academic studies and professional practice are closely connected. For many years, we have therefore collaborated closely with industry, for example, through student projects, research and knowledge-transfer initiatives, and guest lectures. The joint Excellence Hubs of THWS and GJU demonstrate the value of this exchange and how new ideas can directly support the advancement of our cooperation. The integration of industrial expertise plays a particularly important role in the joint degree programmes: Hydrogen Engineering and Advanced Materials Engineering. Active involvement of companies in teaching and practical formats, along with ongoing dialogue with our industry partners, allows us to identify developments at an early stage and to tailor our degree programmes precisely to the needs of the market.”
Prof. Dr. Eng. Marcus Schuck, Advanced Materials Engineering, added:
“The hub between Germany and Jordan paves the way for new approaches to knowledge transfer and exchange between the German and Jordanian plastics industries and the universities GJU and THWS.”
