The Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is now part of the UNINOVIS DATA FOR L.I.F.E. alliance. UNINOVIS is a European University, a consortium of universities from different countries dedicated to support innovative teaching and research while encouraging the international exchange of students, staff and lecturers within their network. The goal is to establish a European University for Data Science.

The UNINOVIS universities foresee Big Data significantly impacting everyday life and plan thus to develop the necessary infrastructure to promote international teaching and research focused on data, aiming to establish an academic network by 2028. To support those efforts, THWS has received 1.2 million Euro in funding from the European Union for the next four years.

In addition to THWS, the UNINOVIS Alliance comprises six other European partners: Université Sorbonne Paris Nord (USPN) in France (consortium leader since 2021); University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli (UDCLV) in Caserta, Italy; Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in Finland; Kaunas University of Applied Sciences (KUAS) in Lithuania; University of Málaga (UMA) in Spain; and University of Tirana (UT) in Albania.

Currently, there are 64 alliances involving over 560 universities from 35 European countries. In Germany, only 19 universities of applied sciences are part of those alliances, with THWS being one of only four Bavarian universities of applied sciences involved in a European University.

The incorporation of THWS in UNINOVIS represents one more step towards the internationalisation of THWS, strengthening cooperation with partner universities to offer students the most innovative academic opportunities across borders. This new European University will also provide lecturers with greater opportunities for further exchange with the partner institutions and a wider impact.
