Würzburg

Würzburg is a lovely city in the heart of Germany, in Bavaria, on the River Main. This Bavarian city has a rich history and an amazing cultural heritage. Würzburg offers students a great combination of academic pursuits and cultural experiences, with its inviting old town, impressive monuments, historical sites, and excellent arts scene. 

In fact, Würzburg has a long tradition as a student city, with around 35,000 students in a town of 130,000 inhabitants. Due to the city's history of hosting many students, there are many activities and events going on to meet new people and get to know Würzburg and its surroundings: from hiking and cycling, to events or get-togethers, you are sure to find something that suites your interests! Thus, Würzburg is a lively place to study, live and meet people from all over the world. This contributes to the modern, open and dynamic atmosphere of the city. This oppenness intertwines with the city's historic charm, offering a unique and enriching experience for everyone. All this will help to make your arrival much easier, as well as allowing you to get out and put your newly acquired German skills to the test in your day-to-day life!

Study at the THWS in Würzburg

The THWS is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Bavaria. The university is located at two sites in the north of Bavaria, in the cities of Würzburg and Schweinfurt. If you study the B.A. Social Work Transnational you will transfer to the THWS campus in the lovely city of Würzburg. 

The different programmes are hosted in diverse campuses and buildings along the city of Würzburg. Students of the hosted programme Social Work Transnational will mainly attend their classes in the complex located at Münzstraße. One of the cafeterias for students is located near to that building: Mensa am Studentenhaus. There, students from all educational institutions can get their dishes (adaptable to various diets) for reduced prices. Students also have a small station to get drinks and some snacks in the main THWS building at Münzstraße.

Main attractions

Discover Würzburg's countless fascinating sites that show its history and culture. The impressive Würzburg Residenz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its breathtaking Baroque interiors and amazing gardens which are worth exploring in all four seasons of the year. The Marienberg Fortress offers both a historic journey and breathtaking views of the Main River. The Würzburg Cathedral is one of the city's beautiful architectural attractions. Walk across the picturesque Old Main Bridge adorned with statues, and explore the vibrant Old Town. Würzburg's fascinating sites promise an immersive experience into its cultural heritage and leave every visitor enchanted by the city's treasures. Art lovers can explore the diverse collections of the Kulturspeicher and the Martin von Wagner Museum, as well as other temporary exhibitions that you may stop by during your stay.

Leisure activities in Würzburg

Würzburg is a dynamic city with many German and international students and offers lots of exciting leisure activities for the student community. The city's many theatres, cinemas and live music venues offer opportunities for entertainment and artistic exploration. Youth culture centres such as the Jugendkulturhaus Cairo offer a wide range of activities, from concerts and cooking classes to talks on a variety of topics and pottery workshops, so you are sure to find something that suits your interests. The parks along the Main River are great for picnics, jogging, playing games with friends or just relaxing and enjoying nature. In the summer, you can soak up the sun on the city beach or cool off swimming in the river. 

Students can also enjoy the lively social scene, with lots of coffee shops, bars and clubs in the old town. Würzburg's rich history and architecture can be explored on walking tours and visits to historic sites such as the Würzburg Residence and Marienberg Fortress. In addition, the proximity of the Franconian wine region provides an excellent opportunity for walking tours that lead to spectacular views of Würzburg and its surroundings from above. 

THWS students also have many opportunities to exercise at the university's facilities. You can choose from many disciplines such as: swimming, going to the gym, guided classes of yoga, kickboxing, Zumba...
