Meet the podcaster

Farah Al Hamouri is a social work professional with extensive experience in research, teaching and project management in social services with a focus on refugees and migration. She holds an M.A. in Social Work: Refugees and Migration from the German Jordanian University and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Jordan. Farah’s career is characterised by her dedication to vulnerable populations through education, research, and fieldwork. As an instructor at GJU’s Social Work department, she supervises field training for master's students and teaches in the Professional Training Certificate in Social Work programme, addressing protracted displacement, human rights, and refugee issues in the Arab context. She is also part of a collaboration with THWS on an international social work project: ThRIvE, which aims to empower international social workers to engage in sustainable, mindful, conflict, and culturally sensitive practice

She has produced this podcast in Arabic and English to explore the evolution, current state, challenges, opportunities and the future of social work in Jordan. In each episode, different professionals in the field will join her to discuss diverse topics that will help you discover the crucial role of social work in society. Prof. Dr. Sahar Al-Makhamreh holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Warwick in the UK, and has had a distinguished career. She is also one of the prominent academics who contributed to the development of the Master’s Diploma in Social Work with Refugees programme at GJU. Prof. Dr. Sahar has extensive experience in the social work profession, starting from her qualification and licensing in Jordan, to participating in the formulation of national and international strategies to highlight the role of social work, as well as being an international arbitrator in specialised scientific fields.
